When I started taking yoga classes in 2007, it was on very casual basis and mostly just for fun. I never imagined that my yoga practice would lead me to where I am today. For a period of time, I was not in a good place emotionally and physically. I can honestly say that yoga helped me focus on the positive ways to change my life. I started to gradually increase my weekly yoga classes because it was the only thing in my life at that time that truly made me happy and content. I remember sitting down for dinner with my parents one night and telling them that I wanted to be a yoga instructor and the desire to be an instructor has never changed. I wanted to share this amazing gift with others – people who may be going through the exact same internal crisis as I was. In late 2008, a friend introduced me to MODO. At first I was very hesitant to try this “hot yoga” thing, but eventually I took my first class at MODO Yoga Edmonton. I was instantly hooked! I fell in love with the heat, the MODO series and the athletic aspect of this yoga practice. I couldn’t believe how good I felt as I walked out of the hot room after that first practice and how amazing I have felt ever since!
In early 2009, I left a very good office position to follow my dreams of becoming a yoga instructor. My first act of committing myself to yoga, involved me travelling to Europe with some girlfriends to partake in a yoga retreat in Santorini, Greece. It was a fantastic personal journey as we practiced yoga every morning on the rooftop of our hotel, taking in the tranquil splendour of the ocean from the high cliffs above. It was a remarkable experience in my life and it only made me appreciate yoga more and realize this amazing world we live in is so much more than we actually appreciate. I returned home in June of 2009 and immediately submitted my application for the MODO Teacher Training. I feel I experienced yoga at its roots when I travelled to India in Feb/March of 2010 and completed my MODO teacher training with some of the most amazing people I have ever met. I truly have found my passion in life. I am very excited to be a part of the MODO and yoga community here in Sherwood Park and look forward to sharing what I have learned with all of you. Namaste.
